1. Find out which type of laminate it is. The most commonly used laminates are Sunmica, HPL, Acrylic, and PVC.
2. After determining the type of laminate, we need to assess its finish – matte, semi-matte, or gloss?
1. use WD-40
Spray WD-40 on the scratch, let it sit for 50-60 seconds and then wipe it off with a soft cloth. You can repeat the process if needed.
2. Toothpaste
The ingredients in toothpaste are perfect for rubbing out scratches from your high-gloss laminate. Dab some toothpaste onto a piece of cloth and begin rubbing. You should notice superficial scratch marks diminish or be removed completely.
Matte finish laminates typically have a top layer coating to prevent fingerprints and stains. For example, products like ONEDTL Thermo laminate are self-healing, and you can easily fix superficial scratches by placing a damp cloth on the scratch and applying low heat with an iron for 10-15 seconds.
1. Wax crayons
Using a wax crayon is one of the easiest ways to repair scratched laminates. Simply choose a crayon in the closest shade to the laminate, and color over the scratch. The wax should fill up the scratch and reduce its appearance.
HPL laminates are composed of layers of compressed paper covered with a thin coating of hard plastic, so it can be tough to repair scratches to the surface. Here are some ways that can help reduce the appearance of scratches
1. Pen/marker
you can use a marker/pen similar to the shade of the HPL laminate to fix any minor scratches.
2. Putty
For scratches on laminate cabinets, you can use a putty that matches the colour of the laminate. First, make sure the area is clean. Then, use a putty knife to press a small amount of putty into the scratch. Smooth out the surface with the knife, then remove any excess material.
